Brooke is a modern-day gypsy who finally found a home in beautiful, red, hot Southern Utah. Her loves include (but are not limited to) her husband, street tacos, painting, running in the rain, edgy indie music, green leafy things, and her second home of Brazil. You can usually find her either studying in a hammock or on her bike—somewhere. She will graduate in May of 2021 as an English major with an emphasis in Professional and Technical Writing.

James Jared Ford

James Jared Ford is a Professional & Technical Writing Major and senior at DSU. He has lived in St. George, Utah for 15 years and graduated from Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts, where he learned to appreciate music, film, visual art, and self-expression. After graduation, he has Renaissance man ambitions to pursue a career in aviation and aerospace while adding both fiction and nonfiction works to his writing portfolio.

Yasel Avalos Sanchez

Yasel Avalos is a senior student working to achieve his BA in English with a professional and technical emphasis in writing and a minor in Spanish. His passion for the arts led him to become one of the editors of Dixie State’s The Southern Quill. He hopes to pursue his paralegal certificate in the future, and travel abroad to see the world.

Dr. Olga Pilkington


Dr. Olga A. Pilkington is proud to direct Route 7 Review. An Assistant Professor of English and an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Research, Dr. Pilkington mentors students who research linguistics and literature. All mentees present their findings at regional or national conferences. Some have published their work while still studying at DSU.

Mary McFadden

Mary McFadden is an English major with a Creative Writing emphasis. She enjoys reading, writing, and playing board games. She has been published in Route 7 Review and The Southern Quill and is currently researching the portrayal of vampires in literature and multi-media.

Jacob Kitchen

Jacob Kitchen is pursuing a degree in English with an emphasis in Professional and Technical Writing at Dixie State University. Jacob is excited to be a part of the R7 editorial team. He enjoys playing sports as well as reading literature. Jacob has a calm demeanor and witty attitude both in the library and on the soccer field.

Rachel McBride

Besides being an awesome mom to twin teenagers, Rachel McBride enjoys researching various topics from baking and DIY projects to LGBTQ+ issues and modern usage of words. She loves documentary films and enjoys learning about new and interesting topics. Rachel dabbles in a bit of everything including editing, HTML, and homesteading.
